Badminton Wk 1

Today we were lucky enough to have Amy from Sport Waikato in to teach us badminton. It was great to have an expert teaching us how to hold the racquet correctly - forehand and backhand. We learnt some neat drills to help us practice our grips. Thanks Amy!

New Furniture!

Great excitement in Room One this morning as the furniture truck arrived with our new classroom furniture from FURNWARE!
It gives us flexibility within the classroom with different table groupings, various table heights and even a whiteboard table.
We enjoyed using the furniture today and finding out what suits our learning styles.
Feel free to come into Room One and have a look

Winter Olympics 2014

Last week Mr Spicer and I had the pleasure of taking 34 students to Totara Springs Camp for our annual Winter Olympics week.
I was proud to be in charge of this year's team and we worked hard to get overall runners up - lots of first and seconds places in over ten sports.
The whole team should be proud of the way that they represented the school - supported each other and were team players.
WELL DONE STANLEY AVE!

Cross Country

A few pics from Cross Country day - Well done to all those that competed and great to see the house competition in action. :)  The beginning of a busy cross country season - district , Thames Valley and Waikato Full.

HP Rural Competition

Well done to our school leaders who produced videos in the HP Rural Schools competition.  We didn't win but they sent us an HP action camera for the quality of their video.
Thanks HP and the school leaders can't wait to get this up and running.

Yay! More experts from our community

Big thanks to Kelvin Forsman who was in Room 1 recently to tell us about the flood of 1985 and his experiences.  We also discussed the impact of tourists on Te Aroha.
Thanks heaps.

Inquiry Questions

Last week as part of our home learning we had to ask five people some quick questions about Te Aroha.  The questions were: why did you move here?  What are some positives?  What are some negatives?  The photos below are all the responses we got and later this week we will collate all the information and share our findings.

THANKS MRS SPICER

The Senior syndicate had Mrs Spicer (Mr Spicer's mummy) in to speak with us today.  She used to live in Te Aroha and she had plenty of information to share.  She talked about the flood of 85, how the community got to paint the town bridge, different companies that were in the town and other interesting facts.
She even told us a few stories about Mr Spicer and how he climbed Mt Te Aroha when he was five!
THANKS MRS SPICER

If you know anyone else in the community that has stories to share - come on in to Stanley Ave!

THANKS MRS SWEENEY

On Friday we were lucky enough to have Mrs Sweeney in to share with us all about the Te Aroha storm in 1978.  She showed us lots of photos of her house which lost its roof in the storm and she explained to us how she got woken up very early in the morning by her mum to leave their house.  Mrs Sweeney also told us she was allowed to take one thing with her and you won't guess what she took... ask a Room One student for the answer!
Mrs Sweeney also informed us about the theatre and how it got destroyed in the storm.  She had amazing photos of the theatre when it was being demolished.
THANKS MRS SWEENEY

Art Term 2

Sorry, I was meant to put this up in the holidays.  This is a college of our awesome Term 2 Art work - we were learning to create detailed patterns for visual effect.  We could use pastels, paint or just vivids with a splash of colour.
